Standardized Test Score Requirement Removed for 2023 Enrollees and Beyond

GPA and Core-Course Requirements Remain

During the 2023 NCAA Convention, Divisions I and II adopted legislation to remove standardized test scores from initial-eligibility requirements for student-athletes who initially enroll full time on or after August 1, 2023. The vote was based on the recommendation from the Standardized Test Score Task Force, a specialized group charged with reviewing initial-eligibility requirements as part of the NCAA's eight-point plan to advance racial equity.

Among other requirements, college-bound student-athletes planning to compete at an NCAA Division I or II school are still required to have a 2.3 (DI)/2.2 (DII) grade-point average in 16 NCAA-approved core-course units and provide proof of high school graduation. Division-specific information on initial-eligibility requirements is available here:

Key Details
In order to participate in Division I or Division II athletics as a freshman (or a transfer sophomore) and receive athletically based financial aid, you must register with the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse and meet academic and amateurism eligibility standards.

Students should apply for certification after junior year in high school. If students have attended multiple high schools since ninth grade, you must have an official transcript from each school.

Important: Official transcripts and test scores must be sent directly to the Clearinghouse from the school.  These documents cannot be faxed or submitted online by individual students. Students should order transcripts from the school registrar.

Test scores must come to the Clearinghouse directly from the testing agencies (selection of the Clearinghouse can be made using code “9999”).  Please note that the Clearinghouse cannot use Student Score Reports and test scores photocopied from a Student Score Report.

Visit the NCAA website and check that you have completed the necessary core (academic) courses to qualify. (Complete the Div. I and/or Div. II worksheet.)  Check the website for a list of approved core courses using your school code (see list below).
