CINCO DE MAYO holds a rich tapestry of historical and cultural significance that extends beyond mere celebration. It commemorates the Mexican victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla in 1862, a pivotal moment in Mexican history. However, its significance varies between Mexico and the United States. In Mexico, it's primarily observed in the state of Puebla, while in the U.S., it has evolved into a broader celebration of Mexican-American culture. It's important for high school students and their families to understand the complexities of this day, recognizing its historical roots while also acknowledging its contemporary cultural significance. Cinco de Mayo serves as a reminder of the resilience and unity of the Mexican people, as well as an opportunity to celebrate the diverse heritage and contributions of Mexican-Americans to American society. Through learning about the complexities of Cinco de Mayo, students and families can deepen their appreciation for history and culture while fostering cross-cultural understanding and unity.
AAPI HERITAGE MONTH & JEWISH AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH May is a significant month for celebrating the contributions of Asian American/Pacific Islanders (AAPI) and Jewish Americans to American society. It coincides with Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, as well as Jewish American Heritage Month. Both communities have made profound impacts on various aspects of American culture, economy, politics, and society. Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have contributed immensely to fields like science, technology, literature, arts, cuisine, and more, enriching the nation's diversity and innovation. Similarly, Jewish Americans have played pivotal roles in shaping America's social, cultural, and intellectual landscape, making significant contributions in fields such as business, academia, entertainment, and philanthropy. May provides a platform to recognize and celebrate the achievements, resilience, and cultural heritage of these communities, fostering greater awareness, appreciation, and understanding of their diverse experiences and contributions to the American tapestry.
AP TESTING: During the next 2 weeks, CV will administer over 2600 AP Exams. This is the largest number of exams we have ever given. We are extremely proud of the risks our students are taking and independent of the result, we know that the real win is taking the class in the first place. For those students taking an AP exam, PLEASE BE ON TIME and make sure you ATTEND THE EXAM. Make up exams are only for true emergencies, like a hospitalization or death in the family or a conflict between 2 exams you are taking. Please remember you physical school ID, a clear bottle of water and a snack. We know you are prepared well. Have a great 2 weeks!
FINAL EXAM ATTENDANCE: Please prioritize your students’ final exams this year. We appreciate you planning vacations AFTER final exams. For an urgent situation that does not permit your student to take their final exam, please work with the teacher to make arrangements. However, know that missing an exam can greatly affect your students grade and/or earn them an incomplete in a course where they will have to make up the exam later.
