Message from the Assistant Principals

As we near the end of another incredible school year, there is so much to celebrate and reflect upon. This week’s Falcon Flyer highlights our students' academic dedication, a spectacular night out, and the beautiful diversity of our community.

Incredible Dedication During AP Testing
Over the last two weeks, our campus has been buzzing with academic focus. We are incredibly proud to share that more than half of our student body, over 1,300 students, participated in Advanced Placement (AP) testing.

In total, we administered over 2,800 exams. While we still have a few make-up exams to facilitate in the coming days, we want to pause and express how exceptionally proud we are of our students. Taking on college-level coursework and stepping up to these rigorous exams takes immense hard work, perseverance, and resilience. Way to go, Falcons!

Observing Eid al-Adha
We also want to take a moment to acknowledge Eid al-Adha, which is currently being observed by Muslim families in our school community.
Eid al-Adha is a special time of prayer, reflection, generosity, and community. To the many families observing the holiday through congregational prayers, joyful gatherings with loved ones, and charitable giving to those in need, we wish you a meaningful and peaceful celebration. Eid Mubarak!

Thank you to our parents, guardians, and community members for your continued support in making our school such a thriving, inclusive, and successful environment.

Falcons Flying

Here is a quick recap of all the amazing things that happened on campus this week:
  • Senior Prom: Prom was a wonderful event! It was great to merge Falcon blue with Dodger Blue for an unforgettable night. It was an amazing event with so much for the attendees to do: they could throw pitches in the bullpen, play a little cards, dance, explore the stadium, get their pictures taken with actual Dodgers, enjoy some classic Dodger dogs, lounge in fun chairs, or just commiserate and make memories with friends. It was truly magical! A huge thank you to the seniors and staff members who worked so very hard to make this night happen for the Class of 2026. Also, a huge congratulations to Brook Waldheim and Natalie Barcena for being voted Prom Royalty this year!
  • Stellar Staff Recognitions: We had an incredible showing at the GUSD employee recognition! Huge congratulations to Junko Nakayama (Richard A. Sanchez Award), Diana Khachatryan and Orenda Tuason (Masonic Awards), Jon Allen (Teacher of the Year Finalist), Iretta Zadourian (Certificated Counselor Award), and Marine Sanosyan (Classified Employee of the Year). In addition, many of our dedicated Falcon teachers were honored with well-deserved Years of Service awards!
  • Athletic Achievements: Our athletes made us so proud! While Softball and Baseball both fought hard and bowed out in the first round of CIF play, they had absolutely amazing seasons. A massive shoutout to Boys Tennis for bringing home the runner-up plaque for Division 3, a first in CV history! We also had a really good day at the CIF Track and Field finals: Torin Blunt placed 6th in the discus with a new school record of 164 feet; Caleb Burton took 5th in the 1600, with 10th grader Enzo Dik taking 7th; and Dominic Esquival placed 7th in the 800. Dominic, Torin, and Caleb have all qualified for the Masters Meet next weekend, with Enzo as the first alternate! Additionally, Payton Simmons took 4th in the pole vault and moves on to next week! Finally, we are continuing to cheer on our Golfer, Nathan Lee, who is still playing next Thursday in CIFSS Finals @ River Ridge GC .
  • NAMIWalks: NAMIWalks is the premier mental health advocacy and fundraising event for the National Alliance on Mental Illness. This major spring event for the Los Angeles County region features a 3K walk, a mental health fair, and a community festival. We are so proud of CV's NAMI on Campus club for participating in NAMIWalks yesterday and showing their support for such an important cause!
  • Campus Highlights: The Choir's Pop Concert was super fun and an awesome showcase of our students' talents! We were also honored to welcome GUSD Board Member Shant Sahakian to campus for a visit.

GUSD Town Hall Meeting

Parent/Guardian Meeting for CVHS, Dunsmore and Valley View
Crescenta Valley High School, 2900 Community Avenue, La Crescenta-Montrose, CA
Cafeteria
Monday, May 18, 2026
From 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.
(Enter through the gate on Glenwood and Prospect. The cafeteria door will be open.)

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As you are aware from previous District communications, Joseph Vladimir Sanchez, a former special education agency-contracted assistant, was arrested and the Glendale Police Department is leading the criminal investigation. The District continues to cooperate fully with law enforcement while also conducting an external investigation through the law firm of Epstein, Becker & Green (EBG).

District leadership has hosted individual meetings with every school community where Sanchez worked. Please note at no time was he assigned to Crescenta Valley. While the law enforcement and EBG investigations are underway, we want to hear directly from our families from the remaining schools, so you may ask questions and we can provide clarity where possible. We understand that this information is deeply concerning.

District leadership will be on the Crescenta Valley High School campus on Monday, May 18, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the cafeteria for a group meeting with parents and guardians of Crescenta Valley High School and Dunsmore and Valley View Elementary Schools. This session is intended to provide space for focused discussion and questions.

District representatives will review what has been shared with the community to date, outline supervision and student safety measures that have been strengthened across GUSD, and respond to questions within the limits of an active investigation. If you are not able to attend this meeting designated for our school, but would still like to have your questions answered, please connect with me for more information on the meeting schedule.

Translation services and childcare will be provided to ensure our families have access.

While we may not be able to address every question in detail due to the ongoing investigation, we remain committed to communicating with care, transparency, and respect.

If you have information relevant to the criminal investigation, we strongly encourage you to contact the Glendale Police Department directly at 818-548-3106.

The safety, welfare, and well-being of our students remain our highest priority. We look forward to meeting with you on May 18.
